👋 Introduction
Good work on setting up your TRE workspace. Now, you need to familiarise yourself with how to use it, including how to turn it off. When you are not using your TRE workspace, you should save resource (and cost) by turning if ‘off’. Most workspaces configurations will automatically hibernate after a couple of hours, although this may vary depending on the project. Hibernating your workspace will allow it to be started again without closing any applications.
Technically there are 2 ways to turn off your TRE workspace, but there’s a critical difference between the two:
❎ Stop
End session - Stop
For the majority of your project analyses, you should select this option.
❌ Terminate
Terminate
At the end of your project, you should select this option.
📘 Instructions
When you have logged into the TRE you can select ‘Start’ to re-open your workspace. This should open a new browser tab and take you to the TRE hosted by AWS.
Stopping your workspace is equivalent to shutting your laptop lid, nothing is lost, and it’ll take a few minutes to re-open. In general, you should select ‘stop’ rather than ‘terminate’.
If you wish to Terminate your workspace, this will delete the workspace and any files not stored on the shared stroage. You only need to do this when you are coming to the end of your project or want a fresh start.
