This article walks you through the steps required to provision a new workspace within the HIC Cloud TRE. A workspace is like a virtual computer with research tools installed, available only to you. Depending on your project requirements, this could be a Windows workspace, or an Ubuntu workspace.
Creating a workspace may take 20-30 minutes. This depends mainly depends on how many and what kind of applications have been enabled on your project.

Follow these steps to create your first workspace:
Login to the Cloud TRE using the credentials provided.
On the left menu, select Studies.
Select the Organisation tab followed by the appropriate study.
Towards the top of the page, click “Next →” to begin provisioning your workspace.
Your project will either be provisioned with an Ubuntu or Windows environment, dependent on requirements.
For Windows, select Windows 2-v3.1.2
For Ubuntu, select Ubuntu Linux 2-v3.1Enter a name for your workspace. This name will be used later to keep track of your data egress requests, so you may wish to name it something relevant to the analysis you will be performing.
Ignore Restricted CIDR
Select the account to create this workspace in. There will likely only be one, based on the study you selected earlier.
Select no to “Allow inbound traffic from project environment”. You will only want to do this if you want to make web applications or services accessible to other workspaces in the provisioned project network.
Select the appropriate image based on your requirements.
Enter a brief description - this is a required field but may not be useful to you. You can use this to store any information which you may wish to keep track of for the workspace.
Click Create Research Workspace
The process may take between 20 and 30 minutes. This only has to be done once for each workspace.
After two hours of being idle, the workspace will automatically hibernate. You should be able to resume this by clicking Start from the workspaces page within Service Workspace.
